The region
Activities, leisure and visits at your fingertips

JK’s One is located in Vamos in the northwest of Crete, a few kilometers from the town of Chania (Chania) and the Akrotiri peninsula. This is where Zorba the Greek (Antony Quinn) made Sirtaki famous around the world, thanks to the film of the same name by Michael Cacoyannis in 1964.
The possibilities for visits and activities are numerous in the region and are practiced in the spirit of the authenticity of local experiences. Whether on adventurous walks or trekking in the surrounding White Mountains.

Activities, leisure and visits at your fingertips

Basking under an azure sky in the crystal clear waters of small, remote coves bordered by local conifers. Or by scuba diving in the southwest of the island.

The nearby archaeological sites are located in Aptera, Armeni and Rethymno and one can still taste the pleasure of a visit devoid of modern museum infrastructure.
However, the main archaeological sites of Crete are located in Knossos, Phaistos and Malia which can be reached by car.

But here we are moving away from the confidential side of the region surrounding the house.

The city of Chania is very close. And alongside its picturesque corners and traces of its Venetian past, it offers beaches (Balos, Elafonissi, Falassarna…) which are among the most beautiful in Greece.

The city of Chania is very close. And alongside its picturesque corners and traces of its Venetian past, it offers beaches (Balos, Elafonissi, Falassarna…) which are among the most beautiful in Greece.

Most of the diving centers can be found on the northern coasts of Chania, while windsurfing and kitesurfing are more developed on the western coasts of the city.

The Chania region is also ideal for hikes to discover authentic villages and secluded beaches. The Samaria Gorge – one of the longest in Europe at 16 km – accessible only from spring to autumn, is the most popular hike of all.

In the old town of Chania we find the Venetian port and the lighthouse which has become the symbol of the city. But it is especially the Venetian shipyards of the sixteenth century, with their superb vaulted buildings that constitute the main attraction of the port. The Ottoman Baths are nearby and once housed Turkish hammams, but they are no longer in use today. Many small buildings or churches house Byzantine Collections, a Typography Museum, a Folklore Museum, an Archaeological Museum, etc.

More modern in design, the Arsenali Center aims to promote Mediterranean art and architecture.

The Naval Museum of Crete with its collection of model ships – from Antiquity to modern times – is located in the Firka Tower at the entrance to the port.

Also, don’t miss the “To Roloi” clock tower in the municipal garden, adjacent to Dimokratias Street.

Closer to JK’S One, the personalized services offered by Vamos Village – a small local tourist office – constitute a sure, efficient and expert help to discover the immediate surroundings in an authentic way with proposals for visits to cheese factories, distilleries, olive oil extraction workshops, ceramic or painting workshops, even a forge from a bells maker for local goats.

If Artemis is there when you visit, don’t hesitate to call on her knowledge and experience in the area. She knows everyone and she knows the right places. Keep them especially to yourself!
